The SAN (sinusoatrial node) is the pacemaker of the heart, so it can control the frequency of contraction for the entire heart. It’s function is to contract the atria, but it does not directly send impulses to the ventricles
The SAN relays the signal to the atrioventricular node, that contracts the ventricles with the help of the bundle of His and Purkinje fibers
I don’t think we can say that the SAN sends nerve impulses to the ventricles, since it needs a relay, the axons of the SAN won’t directly fire the ventricular muscles to contract
