BMAT 2005 Q9 Maths

How can i solve this?

hi
this is a tricky question

A=1/B²
change B to 140B/100
1/(140B/100)² = 1/1,96B²
for the equation to stay proportional we must also divide A by 1,96
A/1,96=1/1,96B²
assuming we start with 100%A so a value of 1,00
1,00A/1,96=0,51
the new value of a is only worth 51% of the original, meaning it must have decreased by 100-51=49%
