Bmat 2018 question 19

A circuit consists of a 10Ω resistor and a variable resistor connected in series with a 6.0V battery. The variable resistor has a minimum resistance of 2.0Ω and a maximum resistance of 20Ω.

What is the difference between the largest and smallest currents possible in this circuitA circuit consists of a 10Ω resistor and a variable resistor connected in series with a 6.0V battery. The variable resistor has a minimum resistance of 2.0Ω and a maximum resistance of 20Ω.

What is the difference between the largest and smallest currents possible in this circuit?

hi

the resistors are connected in series so Requivalent = R1 + R2
V=IR so I=V/R

if R = max, Req = 10 + 20 = 30 ohms
I = V/R = 6/30 = 0,2 A

if R = min, Req = 10 + 2 = 12 ohms
I = V/R = 6/12 = 0,5 A

I max - I min = 0,5 - 0,2 = 0,3 A
