He could have stopped at floor 2, 3, 5, 6, or 9
floor 0 could work because it’s two less lights than 8 BUT the lift is going up before stopping so we don’t count the ground floor as an answer

thank you for replying, but I still don’t get it how did u eliminated the possibilities for floors 1, 4 and 7
AND which lights should we consider as the ones that don’t work

4 and 7 could only happen if 3 of the lights weren’t working :))

oh then what it meant was by deleting 2 lights… I thought working means turning on and off automatically and if 2 are not “working” there must be 2 specific one for all of them that are off all the time
but as it says “could” I believe the provided theory of mine doesn’t suit this situation, right?

That’s right :)) they said two lights are definitely not working in the text but it could be any two lights that could be 8. So it would be 2,3,5,6,9
