Genetics ib bio question

answer is D
how would multiple alleles be related to this graph

hi

this is a tricky question
from the graph we can tell that height is distributed evenly around the mean
we can expect the phenotype ratio short : medium : tall to be about 1 : 2 : 1, the most common phenotype is medium, the least common tall and short are equal

Say T=tall and t=short, with the most common genotype Tt
The phenotype ratio of a cross of Tt x Tt will give
3 : 1 if dominant/recessive gene
it follows Mendelian rules of inheritance = independent assortment, but this ratio would not be a symetrical distribution around the mean so option B) and C) is false

if genes are linked, the ratio would be completely off, and have an very asymmetrical distribution, so option A) is false

1 : 2 : 1 if continuous variation or codominance (multiple alleles are responsible for the phenotype) but this isn’t an option given

by elimination it should be option D)
can anyone find a way to justify D) being correct?

i do agree with your reasoning this seems pretty correct but saying multiple genes sounds wrong as dependent on alleles. i will check online too

Hope this helps!!
