Help needed solving a logic question

Hi everyone, can someone explain why the ratio of red to white is 5:3?

I found this video in Russian, but using the auto translate and following the video it makes things clearer NUET (NUFYPET) CRITICAL THINKING ASESSMENT/ PROBLEM SOLVING (Below is a grayscale image...) - YouTube

since we are told the red part in the middle is 1/4 of the middle white part, and we know that the white square is twice as large as one of the red side panels, we can split the flag into fractions like a pie. The maple leaf is 1/4 of the white part, which is 1/2 of the total area (two red sides = the other 1/2). So we can say that the red part in the middle is 1/8 the total area [since (1/4)(1/2) = 1/8], and the other red parts are half the total area, which is equivalent to 4/8. Add these up and you get 1/8 + 4/8 = 5/8 parts red, and 4/8 - 1/8 = 3/8 parts white since the white area is half the flag minus the red leaf.

From this we can conclude the ratio of red to white is 5:3
