Hi everyone! I was reviewing on HIV and a question idea popped into my head. Now I understand HIV targets CD4 cells however can it possibly affect ALL cells (except erythrocytes due to lack of DNA). In case a question gives a list of cells and asks which cells can be affected by HIV. Also plant cells cannot be affected by HIV right, due to the cell wall? Just trying to cancel out all possibilities! Thanks!

hey! I though HIV only affects CD4 cells or T-helpers (some resources say this), how is it that affect all cells? Do you think this is another Cambridge trap?
On the other hand, I don’t think that it can affect plant cells because they dont have same receptors on their surface (as CD4 cells).

Hİ @callearaya !!
- Yes HIV cannot invade plant cells.
- Also it is all about the glycoprotein CD4. If there is CD4 HIV can enter. But I came across an article about the different types of CD4+ glycoprotein.
It said “HIV primarily targets a type of cell in the immune system called the CD4+ T cell. However, many types of these cells exist, and they are not all equally susceptible to infection by HIV.”
3. I read that HIV can also invade monocytes and macrophages.
