How to write the product of a reaction?

“The base sodium oxide (Na2O) reacts with water to produce the alkali sodium hydroxide:
Na2O(s) + H2O(l) → 2NaOH(aq)”

One thing sometimes I don’t understand is how to write the product of a reaction. Some are easy and can be memorized like when acid and base react to form salt and water. However, the example above, having the product written like that is difficult for me to understand. Why is it written like that?

A Metal Oxide is obtained when a Metal reacts with Oxygen, whereas when a Metal Hydroxide is obtained when a Metal reacts with Water. When Sodium Oxide (a basic oxide) was dissolved in water, it produced Sodium Hydroxide, a base, which is aqueous because of the addition of the water.
