Four of the following five points are the same distance from the line L. Which one is at a different distance?

The best way to answer this question would be to draw a quick sketch of the line and the points, because it quickly becomes obvious our answer is E.

The easiest way to find the answer is to insert the x values of the options into the equation of the line and find the y of the function and how far the y of the options is from the y of the function. For instance, if you enter the x value of A, the y on function will be 1, and it is 2 units away from the y of A (_1).

In the same way, the y’s of the options and the function are 2 units away except for E.

y=2(5)_1=9

13_9=4

So the answer would be E.
