IMAT 2015 Q39 biology genetics

Hello! I have a reading comprehension problem with this question. how am i supposed to understand whether the DNA sequence given in the question is from the “coding strand” or the “template strand”? (I if i consider it as a coding strand than answer D is the right one. if i consider it as a template strand then answer C is the right one.)

(The correct answer is C)
thank you

Since we have to convert the dna to rna first. It is only logical that the strand is template since that is what forms the basis of the mrna to be generated. Moreover this mrna will be further translated into proteins.
So the main catch here is that one has to move stop by step.

I think if the question didn’t state whether it’s template nor coding strand, we should consider doing it as a template one.

Is it always like that? unless mentioned differently I should always regard a DNA strand as the template one?

@AriHoresh we need your help!

Yes, you must assume it’s the DNA that is responsible for the protein, because we discuss the tRNA that is related to it, so it must have been transcribed into RNA!
