Question 308:
Which of the following apply to Mendelian inheritance?
- It only applies to plants.
- It treats different traits as either dominant or recessive.
- Heterozygotes have a 25% chance of expressing a recessive trait.
- 1 only
- 2 only
- 3 only
- 1 and 2
- 1 and 3
hey, I don’t really understand why 3 option is not correct. Could you explain it?
Hello!
I think why option 3 is incorrect because hetrozygotes themselves do not express recessive traits. A recessive trait is only expressed when “aa” .
I think your thought process is hetrozygotes can express 25% but that percentage only applies to offspring likelihood of being homozygous recessive. Hetrozygotes themselves have a 0% chance of expressing a recessive trait.
I might be wrong but this is my understanding on the situation I’d love for any moderators to correct me if I said anything incorrect.
