Redox reaction question

consider the conjugate redox pair IO3 -1 and I2
what type of half reaction is this, ox or reduction?
what is the reduced and oxidized form?

answer: reduction
answer: io3-1 is oxidized form
can someone explain? I thought the opposite of the answer key
thanks

hi

oxidation number of IO3⁻
x-6=-1 so x=+5
oxidation number of I2 = 0
since the oxidation number of iodine decreased, then it has undergone a reduction
the oxidizing agent is reduced, so IO3⁻ must be the oxidized form, so it can undergo reduction
