What is the difference between transformation vs liniar transfromation

it says that it is foreign dna but if it is the same species of bacteria that takes it out of the environment it would still technically be foreign .

Although it might be late to respond, the difference is the form of DNA, i.e. linear vs. circular. Eukaryotic DNA is mostly in linear form (except in the mitochondria and chloroplasts) while prokaryotic DNA is circular. Some prokaryotic organisms like some few bacteria are capable to uptake and incorporate linear DNA, meaning they do linear transformation as well. Bacteria usually take up circular DNA, called plasmids.
